Scripture Read Judges 12-16

Nugget 14:1-3

“Once Samson went down to Timnah, and at Timnah he saw a Philistine woman. Then he came up, and told his father and mother, ‘I saw a Philistine woman at Timnah; now get her for me as my wife.’ But his father and mother said to him, ‘Is there not a woman among your kin, or among all our people, that you must go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?’ But Samson said to his father, ‘Get her for me, because she pleases me.’

Devotional thought: Samson has been, is and remains under a Nazirite vow from before conception, for he is to be a leader of the Israelites. (Judges 13:3-5) The origin of this vow is found in Numbers 6:1-8. Yet Samson is human and is not only subject to but give into temptation. When his parents attempt to guide and correct his proposed course, Samson replies, “Get her for me, because she pleases me”, (“she is right in my eyes”). Oh the tantrums we throw in an attempt to get what we want, regardless of what we are supposed to have, regardless of God’s will for our lives. Temptation starts with something small, then each time we give in, it grows into something bigger and we find ourselves further and further from God. King David stayed home one spring instead of going out to campaign with his army, the place where a king is supposed to be. That little act then led to adultery, deception, murder ….. O God forgive me, when I say/think “Get ____ for me, because _______ pleases me. Let what pleases me be your will for my life.
