Scripture Read Genesis 28-31

Nugget Genesis 28:18-22

“So Jacob rose early in the morning, and he took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it. He called that place Bethel; but the name of the city was Luz at the first. Then Jacob made a vow, saying, ‘If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God, and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God’s house; and of all that you give me I will surely give you one-tenth to you.’”

Devotional thought: Upon waking from a dream in which God stood next to Jacob and said to him, “I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; ………. Know that I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done that I have promised you.” (read entire statement at Genesis 28:13-15) Jacob immediately builds an altar, declares this is none other than the house of God then says, “If God will…..”. How many times have I/you/we said or thought, “If God will keep His promises, then He will be my God and I will……” When are we going to get it into our hearts and heads that God is God, that God has kept, is keeping and will keep His promises yesterday, today and tomorrow?  When will we submit ourselves to live with God regardless the journey He sends us on, assured that God is who He says He is. If – then is a cautious way to live. Better to believe and live a life of faith saying, “God is, I will.” Build altars of worship that mean something, that demonstrate assured faith, say “God you are, I will.”
