Scripture Read Jeremiah 1-5

Nugget Jeremiah 5:1

“Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, look around and take note! Search its squares and see if you can find one person who acts justly and seeks truth – so that I may pardon Jerusalem.”

Devotional thought: Just one person who acts justly and seeks truth, just one is all God asks Jeremiah to find, so Jerusalem in its entirety would be forgiven. Who will it be? “Is it I?”; we should all asks ourselves. Jeremiah’s response, “O LORD, do your eyes not look for truth? You have struck them, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to turn back.” (Jer 5:3) God’s response? “How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me, and have sworn by those who are no gods. …. Shall I not punish them for these things?” (Jer 7-9) O certainly by now, this deep into Lent we are all ones who act justly and seek truth, no longer is there any rebellion in us and each of has turned back to God fully. Just one. Who will it be? Is it I? Thank God for Jesus Christ, The One who brings pardon, not only to Jerusalem but to the entirety of Creation – to those who believe and repent. Praise God from whom all blessing flow!
