Scripture Nugget 11.30.2016

“The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work. As it is written, ‘He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.’ … Thanks be to God for this indescribable gift!” 2 Corinthians 9:6-9, 15

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift, indeed! God sows bountifully into His creation, yet the creation reaps sparingly – why is that? God’s grace is feeling given, and available for the receiving yet, many accept His grace sparingly if at all. God’s grace is far-reaching, His grace is for all rich and poor and His transformative grace is the same today as it was yesterday and will be tomorrow. An indescribable gift, indeed! Having received the gift do we freely share with others or do we attempt to hoard it, as if it will run out? God’s love of cheerful givers has nothing to do with quid pro quo – you give cheerfully he’ll bless you richly; no this isn’t prosperity gospel stuff. No God loves all however in cheerful givers God recognizes an appropriate response to His indescribable gift and He appreciates that response. Cheerful givers are givers with God’s spirit, they provide blessings in abundance, abundance that comes from God. Who else is there to hope in?
