Scripture Read Jeremiah 22-26

Nugget Jeremiah 23:1-4

“Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! Says the LORD. Therefore thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the shepherds who shepherd my people: It is you who have scattered my flock, and have driven them away, and you have not attended to them. So I will attend to you for evil doings, says the LORD. Then I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the lands where I have driven them, and I will bring them back to the fold, and they shall be fruitful and multiply. I will raise up shepherds over them who will shepherd them, and they shall not fear any longer, or be dismayed, nor shall any be missing, says the LORD.”

Devotional Thought: Those called to lead God’s people are responsible to care for and promote the Kingdom of God, in the language of Genesis – to keep and to till, be fruitful and multiply. This is life, life abundant. All of us called to lead as members of the priesthood of all believers need to ask ourselves; Am I sharing God’s promise, am I promoting His promise of hope or am I blocking the sheep from the shepherd, or running the sheep off. Do I play well with others or bully them out of the Kingdom? The Good News is that God continually and constantly looks to gather the lost sheep into His flock. That includes the shepherds. Here the Good News, repent and enter the Kingdom of God!
