Scripture Read Genesis 48-50

Nugget Genesis 48:21-22, 50:24-25

“Then Israel said to Joseph, ‘I am about to die, but God will be with you and will bring you again to the land of your ancestors. I now give to you one portion more than to your brothers, the portion I took from the hand of the Amorites with my sword and with by bow.’” … “The Joseph said to his brothers, ‘I am about to die; but God will surely come to you, and bring you up out of this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.’ So Joseph made the Israelites swear, saying, ‘When God comes to you, you shall carry up my bones from here.’”

Devotional thought: In the last three chapters of Genesis there are at least four examples of Over-the-Horizon faith expressed. Two of them are captured above, one by Israel/Jacob and the other by his son Joseph. Faith in the future, faith that someone else will do what you ask, faith that God is not only in the past and present but in the future as well. Both of these men, leaders of God’s people had faith that at some point, God would lead His people out of Egypt and not only return them to the land that was promised but provide life abundant as well. As we journey by stages, only able to see what is directly in front of us, do we continue in faith to that which is promised but we cannot see?
